What is ChamberSign
aisbl?
an information gateway for
educating and promoting the use of digital signatures in new
and existing members' services, marketing their
potential as national and cross border
services;
-
a project management tool for members
that intend to test, duplicate and eventually deploy trust
and security services already in use in ChamberSign members'
markets.
The ChamberSign aisbl
mission(s)
If to help members increase the number of digital certificates and of services requiring their usage is the current ChamberSign aisbl mission, the deployment of cross-border services is at the center of our strategy and the ultimate objective for our association.
The
ChamberSign aisbl past
Founded
by Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce
and Industry in 1999 with currently 9 member Chamber organisations,
ChamberSign aisbl represents 579 local Chambers of Commerce, thus
13,4 million enterprises, most of which are SMEs.
. ChamberSign aisbl is an
initiative set up by Chambers of Commerce with the aim to create a
comprehensive architecture for secure business-to-business
electronic commerce across international borders;
The
ChamberSign focus was - and still is - to promote and
enable the strong authentication and digital signature technology,
making it widely available to the business community and achieving
international recognition and interoperability.
ChamberSign aisbl
today
- eGovernment - not eCommerce – has been the
main business driver in delivering to SMEs strong authentication
and electronic signature applications in the ChamberSign member
States;
- national
eGovernment schemes [or lack of them] are shaping diverse trust
and security policies and standards in members national
markets;
- ETSI standards have been a neglected aspect
in the implementation of
Directive 99/93/EC;
-
a common policy for implementing the ChamberSign
cross-border Certification Authority (C.A.) is challenged by the
different national requirements for eGovernment, currently in use
by members C.A.s..
ChamberSign aisbl
future
By launching focused projects for testing, validating and
deploying cross-border services, Chambers of Commerce – in parallel with
other EU initiatives – can deliver a coordinated transnational push
which could prove beneficial for all entities involved in
the dissemination of standardised strong authentication and digital
signatures solutions in Europe.
